Hip Hop Icon Guru of Gang Starr Dies At 43; Left Letter To Fans Before Death

As reported on www.HipHopRX.com, Guru of the legendary rap group ‘Gang Starr’ suffered from cardiac arrest and was in a coma for a few days back in Feb. We have just learned that Guru has died of cancer after battling with the illness for over a year. Just before his death, Guru wrote a heartfelt letter to his fans.

Guru, born Keith Elam, died on Monday April 19 at the age of 43 after losing his battle with cancer. The Gang Starr founder rose to stardom back in the 80’s as one half of the group with partner Solar featuring DJ Premier.

Just Before Guru left this world he wrote a letter to his fans and sent it out as a press release.

As reported on www.HipHopRX.com, the rapper and hip hop icon was expected at one time to make a full recovery after a reported successful surgery.

    R.I.P Guru – u will truly be missed. This letter is just wrong and sad, although we all believe Solar is behind this. But let’s just say for a min. Guru really wrote this – this is where Solar should have shown that he is a good friend. Solar should have been trying to mend things with Guru and his family, a good friend would have stopped him – wouldn’t feed into it. Even if my friend says I want u to have all rights to my estate etc… I wouldn’t do that to someone’s family, no matter what problems they had. Solar need to step back and be respectful, bec he wouldn’t want no one to do that to him. He should let the family do what they have to do, morn with dignity not shame – he shouldn’t have exposed this letter – if in fact it was written by Guru. Even it Guru told him to do so– a true friend would do the right thing. The family is the most important in this sad situation.

    People cause these things to happen, if he needed to vent, I don’t see how he was strong enough to write a letter, but we need to respect his dieing wishes.

    Another hip-hop great meets their end. So unfortunate. Guru was def one of the best and will be missed by those that truly loved the music.
