Emcee Apache, born Anthony Teaks, passed away on Jan. 22nd from an alleged protracted illness, however, the exact cause of death is unknown.

Originally, Apache was a member of Queen Latifah’s ‘Flavor Unit’. He was best known for his single “Gangsta Bitch”, which peaked at #11 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart.

C.E.O. and Co-Founder of Flavor Unit Records, Shakim Compere told AllHipHop.com that “without Apache” there wouldn’t have been iconic rappers such as Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature, or Chill Rob G.

Compere added that Apache was what tied the Flavor Unit together.

According to MTV, Apache’s best friend Trick says Apache was found Friday in his home by his brother and had shown no signs of illness.

Apache also collaborated with Fat Joe, Tupac and A Tribe Called Quest.

As of last year, rapper Apache was planning on a musical comeback for at least one last album.

Rest in Peace Anthony Teaks, a.k.a. Apache.
