Legendary singer and rapper, Lauryn Hill has gotten he surprise of her life as it was announced that she may face a one year jail sentence, over unpaid taxes.
Lauryn is not the first or the last hip hop artist that has a debt with Uncle Sam however it came to many as a surprise when it was said that she failed to pay taxes on $1.6 million of earnings. If you do the math right then she is in for a rude awaking as she will learn that her dues will be substantial.
The Wall Street Journal reports that U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced the three-count charge against the Grammy Award-winning singer, who allegedly failed to pay taxes for three calendar years.
Lauryn Hill allegedly missed paying taxes for the years of 2005, 2006 and 2007.
According to the IRS, the rapper/singer failed to pay taxes on over $1.6 million in taxable income.
Lauryn Hill faces a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
She will appear in court to address the charges on June 29.
It does not sound good for Lauryn as of now, however I’m sure she’ll be able to make a settlement and avoid any jail time.
