DMX, who’s real name is Earl Simmons, was sentenced to six months in jail for violating his probation but Celebrity Rehab’s Dr. Drew has asked the judge to let him treat the rapper instead.
DMX showed up to his preliminary hearing on March 9, as reported on www.HipHopRX.com, to hear of his charges. The judge read off 5 violations for using or possessing cocaine. A seeming agitated DMX stood there quietly listening to his charges but when the judge left the court room, X went ballistic as he was sent to jail to await his sentencing.
On March 16th, X was sentenced to six months in jail for violating his probation. Celebrity Rehab’s Dr. Drew Pinksky reportedly submitted a letter to the judge requesting to treat DMX for his addiction to cocaine instead of giving him jail time.
“He’s been battling addiction for some time and he’s in need of treatment. We’re hoping that maybe Dr. Drew might be able to help him,†says DMX’s attorney Gary Jenkins.
According to TMZ, the judge seemed open to letting DMX attend rehab.
No word yet on if DMX will actually go to Dr. Drews Celebrity Rehab!
