Despite rumors that Kanye West had cancelled his appearance on Jay Leno, he showed up as promised which Jay Leno thanked him for. Before Kanye West spoke, Jay Leno told Kanye West that a lot of times he has a publicist call and say that their client is not available because things happen and people back out at the last minute and stated, “Thanks for honoring this commitment.”
Jay Leno, who gave Kanye West (who was initially there just to perform with Jay-Z and Rihanna for “Run This Town”) the opportunity to speak on the show, asked Kanye West to tell him about his day and if he had a tough day in which he replied, “Yes, it’s been an extremely difficult, I just, just dealing with the fact that I hurt someone or took anything away, from a talented artist or anyone…” The music producer and rapper goes on to state that his entire life he has just wanted to give and do something that he felt is right. It’s possible Kanye West felt that Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” deserved the Best Female Video award at the VMA’s after it went viral and the success on social networking sites and overall popularity compared to that of Taylor Swift’s “You Belong To Me”.
Kanye West goes on to say that he wanted to apologize directly to Taylor Swift after stepping on her emotions and being rude.
When Jay Leno questioned him about how his mother would react, Kanye West seemed to have choked up a little bit and had to gather his thoughts which prompted him to say that, “After this I just need to take some time off, analyze how I am going to make it through the rest of this life and how to improve because I am a celebrity and that’s something I have to deal with. If there’s anything I can do to help Taylor in the future or anyone…”
After his heart-wrenching interview with Jay Leno, Kanye West joined Jay-Z and Rihanna for a live performance of the song “Run This Town.”
