Music producer/singer Akon and rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are the latest to have been been hit with a lawsuit for allegedly sampling. Fort Worth, TX company Songster filed a lawsuit against the two parties citing that they sampled from the 1970’s song “When The Day Will Come” which they own the rights to.

In cased you missed out, here’s a video interview of Akon talking with Billboard and discussing overcoming legal issues, working with Michael Jackson and talking about his third studio album, Freedom, which features single, I’m So Paid ft Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy.

“The direction to this album is real up tempo or club type feel that kind of leads into the urban hip hop, into the international. We’re truly just changing the whole sound of it, the whole Convict sound,” stated Akon.

Singer, rapper and producer Akon born Aliaune Thiam previously plead not guilty for his infamous fan-throwing incident in June of 2007. Akon was video taped and accused of tossing a teen boy into the audience. The toss caused the young boy to fall on top of a teen girl who reportedly received a concussion as previously reported.

On Wednesday, the singer plead guilty on the charges and declined to comment as he left the court house in NY.

Take a Behind The Scenes look at Akon in the studio as he forms his current album Freedom, along with the people who played a part in his career and more. His mother Kine Thiam speaks about how Akon, when he was younger, would ask to come to rehearsal with his father and they would let him play his drum and he would sing. Kine Thiam states that Akon didn’t get into hip-hop until he was in high school.

Akon’s second single titled “I’m So Paid” featuring Lil Wayne from off his new album entitled “Freedom”. The album will feature guest appearances from Michael Jackson, T-Pain, among others.

Akon has been named Artist of the Year by Billboard magazine. The selection was based on his radio airplay and chart successes.
