Being a rising musician is a hard job–not just in Hip-hop, but all genres in the entertainment industry. Pursuing your passions is often a challenge in a world where auto-tuned artists get all of the attention. Going from the streets to having regular shows is a huge deal for artists, and these steps will hep you get to that point.

1. Gain A Reputation

In the modern age of social media, it is important for musicians to start by creating online profiles. An online profile can go far in helping you achieve your dreams. Numerous websites can help you list your music and create mp3 files that fans can buy with what they can donate. Reputation.com is also a powerful tool to help you gain a positive presence online. Build websites that will focus on your skill and music.

2. Create An EP

An EP is a great first step. This will allow you to get your feet wet in the music industry. Hand out your EP virtually or physically. Perform small shows on the street or open for acts at venues.

3. Create A CD While Doing Shows

Doing shows is a big step, especially if you’re a DJ looking for gigs, but it won’t be as much of a challenge if you have good music. If you don’t have a CD to sell or handout to give to fans, they are less likely to stay interested in your music. Being able to share your music and increase your reputation in your community will make a huge difference in your success.

4. Advertise

Advertising yourself is the most important thing. Let everyone know you are a good musician. You will gain recognition for your talent and reputation the more you advertise. If you are performing at a show, make sure to tell everyone through social media. Make announcements online on a regular basis. Fans will start showing up at all of your shows, and you will gain a large following.

5. Produce Music Professionally

Recording studios can be cost effective for young groups. A single artist may have to spend more, but it will still be worth it. Professionally recorded music can do a lot for your reputation as an artist.

Building a career based on music is a challenge and a long journey. With effort and perseverance, it will be a rewarding one. Success comes to those who work hard for their dreams. Start with the above steps. You will soon see how important reputation is in the music industry, and you will achieve great things.
