EST 19XX/Bad Boy/Interscope recording artist MGK struck victory this year winning the coveted mtvU “Breaking Woodie” Award given to the best emerging artist, besting A$AP Rocky, Fun., The Weeknd, Meek Mill, Azealia Banks, Iggy Azalea and others, at the “2012 mtvU Woodie Awards” which took place during the SXSW Music Festival last week.
This is MGK’s second win with the network after being voted MTV News’ 2011 “Hottest Breakthrough MC” of the year. The Woodie Award win comes days before MGK releases his Half Naked & Almost Famous EP on Tuesday, March 20th and sets out on a record-breaking “2012 Hostile Takeover” tour with Strange Music artist Tech N9ne. With 90 performances in 99 days, the “2012 Hostile Takeover” tour is the longest consecutive run in rap history.

MGK is thrilled to be releasing the EP to his fans. “We recorded the Half Naked EP and my upcoming Lace Up album in the basement of a friend’s house in Cleveland,” states MGK.
“We only dreamed of the Lace Up Movement coming this far in such a short amount of time. I want to thank everyone that has supported and helped me get to this point. It’s only the beginning, so Lace the F*ck Up!”
The Half Naked & Almost Famous EP features MGK’s smash single “Wild Boy” that spawned a #1 voted BET 106 and Park music video. While at SXSW last week, MGK filmed a music video for the remix version of the track featuring electrifying artists 2 Chainz, Meek Mill, Mystikal, French Montana and Yo Gotti. The video also features MTV Jackass celebrity Steve-O who is referenced to on the original track. The remix music video will premiere in the coming weeks.
MGK is in the midst of an extensive touring schedule this year. Last month, he performed at college campuses across the country on the Vice Magazine / Project X Party Legends College Tour. He had multiple performances at SXSW including the SOB showcase, BET Music Matters, Woodie Award Festival and the VEVO showcase. MGK will also be on the Van’s Warped Tour this summer. On March 22nd, he sets off on the 2012 “Hostile Takeover” tour and hopes to extend his already established fan base in various markets.
