George Clinton, the BMI Urban Icon Award winning mastermind behind ‘P-Funk’ bands Parliament and Funkadelic, has had a tragic loss in the family, as the famous musician/producer/singer lost his son this week. George Clinton, Jr., Clinton’s son, was found dead in his Tallahassee, Florida home.

This comes just after George Clinton, long overdue for credible recognition, received the BMI Urban Icon Award. Clinton was awarded the Urban Icon Award from BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated) just a few months ago back on September 10, 2009.

Clinton’s son, George Clinton, Jr., was reportedly found by a maintenance person around 12:30 p.m. February 1, 2010, who then called police. Clinton Jr apparently died from natural causes however, no detailed information regarding exact cause of death has been released.

Clinton, Jr’s father George Clinton, 68, was currently touring and performing and, ironically, was recently featured on Big Boi’s new single, ‘Fo Yo Sorrows,’ along with Too Short.

The musician along with and Parliament Funkadelic is scheduled to appear at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on April 23, 2010.
