Rapper Lil Wayne, who’s currently the proclaimed biggest hip-hop/rap star, plead guilty on gun possession charges stemming from 2007 after previously pleading not guilty.

The Cash Money rapper who was looking at serving possibly 3 1/2 years, as reported on www.HipHopRX.com, will now be facing a year in jail after making his guilty plea on Thursday.

After a DNA profiling technique (low copy number DNA) was used to determine whether the gun belonged to the rapper, Lil Wayne admitted that he illegally loaded the .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in 2007. Lil Wayne’s attorney first disputed that the gun belonged to the rapper and questioned prosecutors whether the DNA results linked him to the weapon.

Lil Wayne is expected to return to court for his sentencing in February 2010.
