Fat Joe speaks on preparing for his latest upcoming studio solo album entitled J.O.S.E. 2 (Jealous Ones Still Envy 2), the sequel to his 2001 album Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.), and says that he’s ready to do something different than what he’s hearing today in Hip-Hop which in his opinion, many albums today sound like “f*cking mixtapes” and not real albums.

“A lot of albums I hear these days sound like mixtapes,” Fat Joe says in his video interview. “Believe it or not a lot of rappers can’t make hooks… so … it’s not a coincidence when you hear your favorite rapper with like sampled hooks and … they just don’t know how to make it…”

“A lot of albums that sound like f*cking mixtapes,” Fat Joe reiterated.

Fat Joe goes on to say that when he makes an album, he tries to make “big records” and “big songs” to try to “make every record a hit” even when it’s an underground or “hardcore” record he tries to make a real strong hook to make it feel real big.

“I hate getting albums and then it sounds like just one big mixtape to me,” Fat Joe stressed.

Fat Joe then goes on in his interview to talk about being “picky” about producers and makes mention of rapper hip-hop CEO Jay-Z.

“To producers, I’m picky, I’m sure they talk sh*t about me … I just love music so much.. I been able to have an ear for picking good beats and hit music… It’s not easy for people to make hit records.. the life span of a rapper is 3 years.. I been here like 16 years.. everybody be like “yo why don’t yall give the young boys a shot” but I think some young boys from New York have had the shot but fumbled the ball… don’t get mad at Jay-Z cause he makes hits… don’t get mad at Busta Rhymes… I mean what do you want us to do.. imagine we all went away .. it would really look like a soup kitchen,” Fat Joe details.

Fat Joe’s album Jealous Ones Still Envy 2 (J.O.S.E. 2) is slated for release in stores October 6 on Imperial Records / Terror Squad.
