Michael Jackson’s Hair On Fire Pepsi Commercial Sparks New Controversy

Michael Jackson’s Pepsi commercial accident where the famed Pop singer’s hair caught on fire is stirring up new controversy! Ever since the video footage of Michael Jackson’s hair catching on fire during the infamous 1984 Pepsi commercial video shoot was released via US Weekly, new questions have been raised regarding to whom was the blame for the accident.

The video commercial of the Michael Jackson shoot was directed by Bob Giraldi and reportedly overseen by advertising executive Philip Dusenberry. Now new details have revealed that Giraldi may have asked Michael Jackson to remain at the top of a staircase a little longer so that the pyrotechnic shot would look “more majestic.”

“It was going to look like he was appearing out of the smoke, and that was totally against the instructions, and they did not inform us of that change,” Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Don Donester, who oversaw the safety of the fire effects, told celebrity gossip site TMZ.

By not notifying the fire officers of the new plans to have Jackson positioned where he was, this reportedly could have placed Michael Jackson in harm’s way.

Jackson also appears to confirm the claims in his autobiography: “[Giraldi] came up to me and said, ‘Michael, you’re going down too early. We want to see you up there, up on the stairs. When the lights come on, we want to reveal that you’re there, so wait.’ ”

Since the release of the footage and claims made by TMZ and new details, a spokesperson for Pepsi, who calls the shoot “a terrifying event that we’ll never forget,” claims that the Pepsi company was not involved in releasing the footage and Giraldi has also denied the reports that he was to blame.
