Beyonce, Keri Hilson, and T-Pain following close behind, all, with four nominations.

In the categories for lead nominees this year, Lil Wayne and T.I., they are joined by names such as Rick Ross, Kanye West, Young Jeezy, Jamie Foxx, T-Pain, Jim Jones, Beyonce Knowles, Rihanna, Keri Hilson, Yung L.A., Soulja Boy, and others.

Picking out the hip-hop categories for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, the names are: Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Kanye West and Young Jeezy; and for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, only three names make the 2009 list: Lil Mama, M.I.A., and Trina.

This brings to mind, up and coming rapper Nicki Minaj who’s signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money who, in a recent interview, was asked her thoughts about the shortage of females in the hip hop game stating, “I feel disappointed that we’ve gotten to this place… I wish females could be just as relevant as the males… but I’m happy that my momentum is picking up so I guess I can’t complain.”

Meanwhile, newcomers who made the list for Best New Artist include Keri Hilson, Kid Cudi, Ryan Leslie, M.I.A. and Jazmine Sullivan.

The 2009 BET Awards kicks off on television on June 28th at 8PM/7CST with R&B artist and comedian TV host Jamie Foxx along with confirmed performances by Beyonce, Ne-Yo and Maxwell with a reported possible performance by rapper Lil’ Kim and singer Teairra Mari.
