Chris Brown has decided to withdraw from the Kid’s Choice Awards. After the alleged assault of girlfriend Rihanna, and immediately after Brown sent out a note to fans on Facebook urging them to vote for him for the Kids Choice Awards, angry parents and others began protesting that Brown be excluded from the Nickelodeon program. Nearly 5,000 signatures were reported to have been signed in a online petition aimed at removing Brown and Rihanna due to her continuing her relationship with the singer.

Nickelodeon followed later with a response supporting Brown and the “kid’s choice” who may have picked Chris Brown as their favorite choice.

“Like all our KCA nominees, Chris Brown was nominated by kids several months ago based on his body of work as a performer, and the kids who vote will ultimately decide who wins in the category,” Nickelodeon spokesman, Dan Martinsen was quoted as saying in a statement.

Now that Chris Brown has decided to withdraw, there is little to no chance of him becoming a Kids’ Choice winner this year.

“Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song,” Brown’s representatives said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated.”

“While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so,” the statement added.

The Kids Choice Awards show which Brown was nominated for two Kids’ Choice Awards including favorite male singer and favorite song for “Kiss Kiss,” is scheduled for March 28th, 2009.

Brown, who has reportedly reunited with Rihanna, faces felony charges for battery and criminal threats and is scheduled for another arraignment on April 6, 2009.

Meanwhile, girlfriend Rihanna, who has reportedly started back recording in the studio along with Brown on a possible duet as well, is also up for two Kids Choice awards, including favorite female singer and favorite song for “Don’t Stop the Music.”

There have been no statements from Rihanna or her representatives as to whether or not the pop singer will follow suit like Chris Brown and withdraw from the Kids Choice Awards or will she be participating.
