Rapper Coolio, born Artis Leon Ivey, who was arrested on Friday for reportedly being in possession of the drug crack cocaine, as previously reported, has been charged with a felony according to Los Angeles authorities.

Coolio, known for his 1994 hit Fantastic Voyage and the 1995 hit single Gangsta’s Paradise, which appeared on the movie Dangerous Minds, was charged with one felony count of possession and a misdemeanor on battery and also for possession of paraphernalia.

According to reports, Coolio allegedly grabbed a screener in an attempt to prevent his luggage from being searched by grabbing the screener’s arm, which initially prompted the search and the finding of the drug and a crack pipe in his luggage.

The rapper was booked and was later released on $10,000 bail. After being released, Coolio went back to his schedule of events.

Coolio is expected to be in court on April 3rd for his arraignment as first reported on March 7th.

If convicted, the rapper faces up to three years in prison.
