122 Year-Old Hip Hop Artist, Jeanne Calment, Remembered

Recording her last CD at over a century and two-decades old, Jeanne Calment rapped over hip-hop tracks to celebrate her 121st birthday. The hip-hop rapping French grandmother was first taken as a joke when her hip-hop songs were released, but fortunately for Calment she was reportedly too deaf at the time to hear the criticism and actually, unfortunately, too deaf to even hear her own CD.

Born on February 21, 1875 in Arles, France, Madame Jeanne Calment who’s known for enjoying a lifestyle of garlic, veggies, red wine and two pounds of chocolate a week gave credit to her wealthy lifestyle that was due to being married to a wealthy merchant and her lack of having to work for living so long.

The late Jeanne Calment is being remembered February 21, 2009 after passing away 12 years ago on August 4, 1997; she was 122 years and 164 days old at the time of her death, just a year and a half after recording her four-track CD laced over rap and hip hop tracks, featuring the single “La farandole”.

One might not wish to call Jeanne Calment hip-hop because she only recorded one four-track CD and she’s not exactly the greatest lyricist or the speediest rhymer, but some hip-hop artists haven’t gotten that far and some don’t even rap on their songs; they just sample, while others have only just made a one hit song. If for nothing else, Jeanne Calment should be remembered for her effort in maintaining the infamous words ‘it’s never too late.’
