Remy Ma
Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma, 26, is being held behind bars until her sentencing after being convicted of assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion on Thursday. Her lawyer has said the rapper plans to appeal.

Remy Ma shot her close friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph with a hollow-tip bullet after $3,000 came up missing from her purse. Prosecutors said Remy Ma acted deliberately by getting out the gun, loading it and cocking it as she got into a car with the friend, who was shot in the abdomen and then struck in the rectum with the bullet.

The shooting followed a party at a club in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood on July 14, 2007.

The rapper now faces up to 5 to 25 years behind bars.

A statement posted on Remy Ma’s MySpace page asks visitors to write letters about how the rapper and her music have “positively affected them, influenced them, inspired them, etc. … in hopes that the judge will be lenient.”

It the message includes a special e-mail address for anyone who wishes to do so.

Remy Ma’s sentence is set for April 23, 2008.

In other news, Remy Ma is stated to be getting married behind bars with her boyfriend and rapper Papoose.

At first the couple denied that they had plans to get married, but after being convicted and placed behind bars, the couple has now admitted that they have plans.
