Remy Ma
After allegedly shooting her long-time friend, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, rapper Remy Ma (Remynisce “Remy” Smith), 26, trial has been arraigned in a New York City court on Tuesday, August 14, 2007. The rapper was expected to be indicted over charges stemming from an July 14th incident which almost left Makeda Barnes-Joseph dead on a Manhattan street after reportedly arguing over the sum of $3,000 that was stolen from Remy Ma earlier in the evening.

The rapper was later charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon after turning herself in.

Smith’s lawyer Ivan Fisher tells the New York Daily News, “I suspect that the district attorney’s getting conflicting views of the events from various witnesses and doesn’t want to go before a grand jury until he’s sure of what happened.” Barnes-Joseph has since been released from hospital following the shooting, but isn’t able to return to work due to pain from her injuries.

Reportedly, next week, Fisher’s team will examine and photograph the vehicle driven by Barnes-Joseph

Remy Ma’s $250,000 bail has been extended until her next court appearance on November 29, 2007. If found guilty the rapper faces time in prison with a number of charges.
