It was confirmed on today that Melanie Brown (Mel B. aka Scary Spice) has been married since June 6th to reportedly actor Harold “Harry” Belafonte’s son, movie producer Steven Belafonte (Thank You For Smoking and Sisters). The two have been dating since February 2007 and have been long-term friends for more than 7 years. The information was verified via a marriage license filed on in Clark County.
Those who don’t know who Melanie Brown is, she gave birth to Eddie Murphy’s daughter Angel Iris Murphy-Brown in April who was denied by Eddie Murphey. A paternity test revealed that Eddie Murphey was indeed the father.
In a statement issued by their publicist, the two wanted to “make a private commitment to each other” and got married at the Special Memory Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.
She continued: “The couple, who are both 32, had wanted to keep the ceremony out of the public eye as they planned a more formal wedding for friends and family later in the year.
“Melanie and Stephen felt that they were at a good point in their lives and wanted to make a private commitment to each other. They have been good friends for many years.”
This is the second marriage for Melanie Brown. Her former husband was dancer Jimmy Gulzar which she married in 1998 at a lavish ceremony in Buckinghamshire. The two had an eight-year-old daughter together named Phoenix Chi.
In other news, Mel B. was expected to appear on Larry King Live on August 9th, but the interview was cancelled.
In December and January 2008, Scary Spice “Mel B.” will be joining the Spice Girls for the band’s reunion tour.
