Reportedly rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z is looking at leaving Island Def Jam which he is currently heading as the President/CEO. The rapper is allegedly looking at going over to Columbia Records, the home of Beyonce. According to New York Daily News, insiders stated that the arrival of Jermaine Dupri as president of the Island Urban music division in February is the reason.

“There isn’t room for two kings at one label,” says a source. “Why would Island bring in another power-hitter urban guy?”

And of course, Janet Jackson was coerced and followed Jermaine Dupri over at Island Def Jam.

Cash Money’s Lil Wayne gets the cover of the August Issue of FADER magazine. The interview and write-up on Lil Wayne talks about his label Young Money Entertainment, him recording three to four songs every night since moving his operation to Miami after Hurricane Katrina and how his dedication to his work has landed him hundreds of guest appearances and on mixtapes.

I just did a song for Dr Dre’s Detox, a Madden 2008 song, Enrique Iglesias’ single, Jill Scott’s album, a Freeky Zeekey song, did songs for me and Game’s mixtape, Blood Brothers, did the Beyonce and Shakira ‘Beautiful Lia’ remix, done a song with Jamie Foxx, done a song last night with Freeway, done two songs with Mya, just done a song for Ciara, and I’m on the ‘Like This’ remix for Kelly Rowland,” Lil Wayne stated.

What can Lil’ Wayne be remembered for that is more important and outside of rap music?
“I want to make sure I’m remembered for something more important than rap music.”

Nickelodeon debuted rapper/actor Nick Cannon’s new original series, ‘Nick Cannon’s Star Camp,’ July 22nd on TurboNick, Nickelodeon’s new broadband video player. The series is executive produced by Cannon, Quincy Jones and Quincy “QD3″ Jones III and is about eight members of a new youth super-group called the The Giggle Club, hand-picked by Cannon himself ranging in ages from thirteen to nineteen years old. The group is filmed as they go through star boot camp and receive on hands expert training to help the group record their first album.

After the cameras stop following the group as they learn the fundamental tools needed to make it in the music industry, plans for them include recording an album and performing in a live stage show tour, thereby fulfilling their dreams of stardom. To help get them there, Nick Cannon and Quincy Jones call on a “media dream team” of producer and director Debbie Allen and choreographer to the stars, Fatima Robinson. (more…)

If there’s one thing about Beyoncé Knowles that makes her stand out, it’s that she’s a true entertainer. Nothing would have prevented this star from performing for her fans, not even a fall down a staircase, head first.

Beyoncé took a grueling fall while trying to walk down the staircase when performing her song “Ring The Alarm” and somehow she tripped while walking. As you’ll see in the video, she bounced back up and began singing where she left off like nothing never happened. Real troopers know how to just “brush it off”, because its “mind over matter”. Celebrity couple Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony showed up at the premiere of their new movie “El Cantante” in Puerto Rico on Tuesday, which is based on the biography of Hector Lavoe, one of the biggest Spanish-language singers of the 1970s. The movie will be hitting theaters on August 3.

In addition to the new movie, Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony will be doing a joint tour together this fall the couple announced.

The tour, which is Jennifer Lopez’s first national tour, will begin on Sept. 29 in Atlantic City. The full schedule will be announced next week.

According to reports, Usher, 28, is reportedly getting married over the weekend to his former stylist and pregnant fiancée Tamkea Foster. One source is reporting that it will be at record exec Antonio “L.A.” Reid’s home while others are saying the Hamptons.

This will be the first marriage for the singer and the second for Foster. Foster, 38, divorced her first husband Noontime Music co-founder, Ryan Glover at the beginning of the year with whom she has three kids with. Yeah, that was fast! (more…)

It may come to a surprise to you that after only two weeks of being named CEO of Vibe Media Group, Steve Aaron has announced Vibe’s female magazine “Vibe Vixen” will be folding.

Although the magazine is folding, there will still be life for the magazine as a special themed issue focusing on urban culture. The frequency for the specials hasn’t been determined, a company rep said. (more…)
